Should My Blogsite Include Google AdSense?

I hear this question quite a lot, but the answer depends on many things.

Before deciding if pursuing AdSense in your blog makes sense, consider this point --

Do you want to be a "blogger", or are you a business person that wants to blog?

These are two very different ideas. If your objective is to monetize your blog writing, AdSense might be a good idea. This suggest you are in the business of writing. However, some blogsites (arguably, most business blogsites) are intended to monetize writing efforts indirectly through greater awareness for products, thought leadership in a market segment, or creating better communication with prospects and customers; each are forms of monetization of blog writing.

If you are in the business of writing, AdSense (and many forms of embedded advertising) make a great deal of sense. However, if your business is Wealth-Coaching (for example), you might want to avoid advertising in your blog because there are risks associated with this activity, just as there are rewards.

One risk is that prospects might get side-tracked by an AdSense link. You should ask your self -- now that I have a reader on my site, should I risk the possibility that this visitor will get sidetracked at the moment when I need their attention the most? And if the answer is yes, will 5 or 10 cents mitigate that risk? This is not an issue if your "stock-in-trade" is what's on your blogsite. But for most business people, this is not the case.
