[Google] is a reputation engine - the management of which is performed by publishing tools such as social networking systems, wikis, weblogs, forums, CMS's; these are the sub-systems that form your own reputation managemment system. Esther Dyson recently said -- "THE FUTURE OF SEARCH IS transcending algorithms and a little square search box. It's about personalization, and connecting people with what they want, and then acting upon it for them."
Ok, this is accurate but not complete. Clive Thompson takes the idea a bit further (more in line with my views) ... "Google is not a search engine. Google is a reputation-management system. And that’s one of the most powerful reasons so many CEOs have become more transparent: Online, your rep is quantifiable, findable, and totally unavoidable. In other words, radical transparency is a double-edged sword, but once you know the new rules, you can use it to control your image in ways you never could before."
In my view, Google is not a reputation management system; instead, I postulate that it is a reputation engine - the management of which is performed by publishing tools that integrate with the engine. Tools such as social networking systems, wikis, weblogs, forums, CMS's - these are the sub-systems that form your own reputation managemment system. Employeed efficiently and with good content, they make it possible to be highly recommended in organic results. MyST Blogsite was designed to serve as a comprehensive reputation management system by providing rich tagging services such as Topic Cloud, integrated inbound and outbound syndication, as well as automated content briefings. Many more features combine under the definition of a blogsite to form a deeper definition of a Web 2.0 Publishing Platform. Managing your reputation involves publishing at increasingly higher velocity and across many reputation engines including (but not limited to) Google. To achieve this, you must embrace tools that deliver a wide range of content services that enable your brand message and content to reach out and solidify your reputation. |
