With the anticipated tsunami of Google Android-powered devices which will include millions of NetBooks, more than 2/3rd's of a billion "smart-phone" devices will be performing many billions of searches for social content within the next 30 months. Apple's iPhone, iPodTouch and the anticipated 2010 tablet products will also surge in market share along with Google Android setting the stage for a battle of "mobigeddon" proportions in 2012.
MyST services are designed to provide useful access through iPhone's Safari browser and will likely perform equally well on most Android browsers. MyST-generated content supports double-tap and a wide range of iPhone-specific features that are driving defacto standards for usability and performance. However, there are many things to consider when planning an online marketing and visibility strategy for mobile content distribution.
As a precursor to developing and implementing a comprehensive mobile content strategy, consider these tips:
Begin a dialog with some of your customers to better understand how they would benefit from access to your business media through mobile devices. For almost every business, there's something unique and compelling about your products and services that would create value for your target audience. I've previously written about related subjects at iPhoneCTO here, and here.
Get a dotMobi domain to match your current business domain and/or setup a subdomain such as m.<businessDomain>.com. While some experts believe .mobi domains will never be widely adopted, it's probably not a bad idea to secure the one matching your businesses .com domain name to preclude competitors or domain squatters from getting it. At the very least, this domain should be permanently redirected to your primary RSS feed until you build a mobile site for this domain.
Begin to think about your future content development in a mobile context. We know that the vast majority of mobile searches are location
and/or task-sprecific. Today you should start to practice writing posts that include location data or task-related information in the context of your posts. A good way to do this is with a Captyx Quote component that includes a URL to a Google Map location, or the name of a town or a specific address related to the post.
Feel free to give us a shout if you'd like to discuss your mobile content strategy in greater detail and the service options that are available for expanding findability in mobile search.
We?ve developed a new iPhone application platform for MyST Blogsite clients and we?ll be testing it soon with selected clients under an early experience program.
I spoke with a group of bloggers in Phoenix recently. What I found is that very few had any business from their blogs despite a lot of effort. I have 5 closings and 7 active buyers directly from [our MyST blogsite] in 2008. I know because I ask. One person told me they have been reading my blog for almost a year before they called me to buy a property."
