Blogsites exhibit the highly-touted characteristics of Web 2.0 solutions.

Last year the IBDNetwork put on an Under the Radar event to demonstrate the importance of Web 2.0 by taking a look at some of the new companies offering products in that space. The event, sponsored by Microsoft, took a look at products that were helping to fuel an explosion of consumer-created content, thriving user communities and new business opportunities.

While absent from the line-up, weblog products certainly embody the aforementioned characteristics. Below are ways that blogsites deliver strong Web 2.0 functionality.

Blogsites elevate the science of blogs by providing a purposed explosion of content. From one site, a company can post several blogs on varying topics, relevant content from externally written weblogs, and links to briefing channels that further deliver breaking industry news.

Blogsites offer content management features that let you display pages other than blog posts such as forms, spec sheets, press releases, landing pages for marketing campaigns, and so on.

Blogsites are easy to adopt for newcomers to web technology with turnkey setup, the ability to "brand" a company's weblog to match its website, and underlying technology that allows rapid delivery of extensive customization if needed.

Blogsites leverage the power of the Long Tail of Internet search phrases. The idea here being that unlikely search terms that people use to find your site, in total, far exceed the popular terms that you may be using in a pay-per-click ad campaign.

This year, the same organization will host a similar conference featuring products that mesh with Office 2.0. More on that in a future post.
